Team
Who can join the team?
Anyone with any skill level--from beginner to experienced.  To begin, we will have a boys 5th/6th grade team and a boys 7th/8th grade team for the 2010-2011 season.  We are now forming a 2010-2011 High School team, as well.  If you are interested in joining the High School team, please fill out the contact information page.

If my son has never played, can he try before joining?
Several opportunities will be offered for your child to come out and try it; hold a stick, scoop the ball; learn the fundamentals of the game.

What costs are involved?
The membership cost is $200 for the fall youth program & $250 for the spring youth program.  This fee does not cover the cost of player's uniform.  The cost for the high school program is still TBA.

What equipment do I need?
Players are responsible for their own equipment.  You can expect to pay about $250 - $300 for it, but they use it for several years if they don’t outgrow it.  The pads and cleats get replaced, but the helmet grows with the player and the stick they use until they decide they want a new one.  Equipment can be purchased at Academy (they have some, very small selection) NJS in Plano across from Prestonwood Baptist Church (huge selection) or Play It Again Sports has some.  For cleats, if there’s not a designated cleat for Lacrosse at Academy, you can buy football cleats.

Players need a helmet, cleats, pads (chest and elbow), gloves, cup, stick and mouth piece.

If you’re buying a helmet for the first time, we request black w/ red visor and chin strap at NJS.  You can buy your helmet elsewhere, but you’ll need the red visor and red chin strap.  If you already have a helmet, please do not buy a new one.  We would like all players to have the red chin strap and visor, which can be purchased inexpensively at NJS.

What registration is required?
*You must register with US Lacrosse in order to be eligible to play.  The fee is $25 for a one year membership - www.uslacrosse.org.  If you’re already registered, you do not have to reregister until your year is expired. (ex:  if you currently play for another team).  All you need to do is change your team to Leopard Lacrosse.

*You must also register with NTYLL (North Texas Youth Lacrosse League.)  It is free -
www.uslacrossentx.org.  *If you do not live in Lovejoy ISD’s district or Lucas/Fairview, you must obtain a waiver through NTYLL to play for us.

Where can I purchase Spirit Wear?
Spirit wear can be purchased at www.moonlightthreads.com.

Will this count towards my son's athletic requirement for school?
Yes, if you fill out the Off Campus PE requirement form and submit it to the Lovejoy ISD athletic department.  Some boys may participate in other sports, thus fulfilling the requirement or may choose to participate in off season sports to fill the requirement.

What about a boys 3rd/4th grade team?
One can be formed under our club, if there is enough interest.  At this time, we do not have a 3rd/4th grade team.

Will there be a high school team?
We are now forming a high school team for the 2010-2011 school year.  If interested, please fill out our contact  information page and include your child's name, age, and grade.  A parent information meeting will take place early spring 2010 – date TBA.  Watch your  E-mail Express and Principal's message for further info.

Will there be a team for girls?
It is our hope to create a team for girls in the future!

Why is this a club team and not offered through the district?
Lacrosse is not yet an official UIL sport, therefore if can not be offered through the public school system.

When/Where will practices be held?
Monday and Thursdays from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm at the Sloan Creek Middle School field.

Who will we play at games?
Other club and city sports teams, such as:  Highland Park, Southlake, Keller, Allen, Plano, Wylie, McKinney, to name a few.

When is Lacrosse season?
Lacrosse can be played year round, but the official season is Spring - practices begin in January, games begin in February, and go through the end of April or early May.

Can players get hurt?
Yes, as in any sport.  Lacrosse is a minimum contact game, but more contact is seen at higher levels.  Players must wear helmets, pads, cups and mouthpiece.
